The 1,000 Smiles Foundation is a non-profit organization focused on care of the less fortunate children in Mexico who suffer from lack of dental care and from maxillo-facial deformities such as cleft palate.
Longtime TSF volunteer dentist, Dr. Mark Cruz, was the recipient of the President’s Award from the R.V. Tucker Study Clubs, for all his dedication to excellence and the dissemination of the Tucker principles throughout everything he does. Dr. Cruz(rt) is pictured here with Manuel A. Codero, DDS, MAGD, the President of the Clubs.
Imagine a nonprofit with the sole purpose of changing the lives of generations of children – making investments in individuals that immeasurably improves their existence for a lifetime. Think about an organization that has been doing THIS its outstanding work for almost 30 years.
During these years, it has served thousands of poor children. These are children who would otherwise miss cleft palate surgeries and dental treatments that save them from circumstances in which they might otherwise live as outcasts in their society.
These children, without the surgeries and treatments provided to them at no cost by Thousand Smiles, would grow up shunned by others around them because of their facial deformities.
Now, think about a foundation where everydollar of support goes to fund the important mission of helping these children. with not a cent of donated funding going to pay the charity’s administrators. Sound impossible?
Thousand Smiles is able to continue its hugely successful mission, , because every one of the several hundred people involved with this charity is a volunteer.
There is no Thousand Smiles office and no administrative staff to pay. The skilled surgeons, nurses, anesthesiologists, dentists, hygienists, and legions of other volunteers come together four times a year to offer Mexico’s poorest children these life-changing procedures. All volunteers pay their own travel costs, accommodations and other expenses. The value of their donated services is equivalent to several thousand dollars at each clinic.
Of course the financial need is great, and 100% of funding comes from the gifts of supporters LIKE YOU. If you aren’t already a Thousand Smiles volunteer or supporter, we invite you to become one today.

A “thousand thanks” for your special gift that will truly last a lifetime…
Rotary International has just okayed the first-ever Global Grant for Thousand Smiles! Many thanks go out to Monarch Beach Rotary as the International Club and their district clubs who donated, as well as the clubs in California District 5330, District 5340 and Mexican District 4100. Thank you Rotarians for your generous support!
A Special Thanks to TSF volunteer Jack Winsten, who took these before and after photos of this pretty little patient during the last couple of years... What a difference we make in young lives in Baja!
