The Academy of Dentistry International’s Humanitarian Award was presented to Dr. Earl Freymiller at the Academy of Dentistry International Convocation held in San Antonio, Texas on October 15, 2008 at their Annual is given in recognition of significant contribution to the enhancement of the quality of life and the human condition.
Dr. Freymiller’s interest lies in the area of wound healing, specifically with respect to improving the success of bone grafting procedures. He has 25 publications in peer-reviewed journals and has received grant support for his research from the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, the American Fund for Dental Health, and the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Foundation.
Among his Volunteer activities he is a major participant in the Oral-Maxillofacial surgery team for the Thousand Smiles Foundation’s Craniofacial Surgery and Dental Treatment Mission Clinic in Ensenada, B.C. Mexico.
His interest in Wound Healing, specifically with respect to improving the success of bone grafting procedures is especially valuable for the Thousand Smiles Mission patients who may require such surgeries. He has advanced the treatments available for these children and the success rate of the surgeries. Dr. Freymiller is very active in patient care. In addition to supervising resident and student patient care, he treats private patients through the intramural oral and maxillofacial surgery practice at UCLA.
